If you’re waiting until the interviewer asks “Do you have any questions?” you’ve already missed your moment. Great interviews aren’t reactive. They’re strategic. Here’s how to ask smarter questions and when to ask them: Ask these in the first 5–10 minutes: 1️⃣“What’s the biggest challenge the team is facing right now?” 2️⃣“What does success look like in this role in the first 90 days?” Ask these in the first 20–30 minutes: 3️⃣ “What separates your top performers from those who struggle?” 4️⃣ “How does someone new find their way into working on the most important projects the team is facing?” Ask anytime (but manage expectations on the answer): 5️⃣ “What’s the typical career path for someone in this role?” ➡️ Many interviewers have only been there 1–3 years. Don’t ask this at all: 6️⃣ “Does my background align with what you’re looking for?” ❌ It signals uncertainty and puts the interviewer in a corner.
